Thailand is a fairly safe country with a low crime rate, but it is important to be aware of your surroundings and say cautious of thieves and potential scammers. Taxis, tuk-tuks and busses are the best way to get around on land, though tuk-tuks can prove most expensive of them all, and to island hop, ferries and speedboats are the easiest way around.
Some people may try to befriend you and offer to tour you around shops, restaurants and hotels. These people are usually ‘commission agents,’ who get paid for introducing new customers to businesses.
